    A new profession: Youtube

    The generation-z have replaced the famous millenials or generation-y that is a generation born in the early 1980s and the early 2000s  both are defined digital natives who spend most of their free time playing video games and commentating them on  YouTube. You just need a webcam and confidence when speaking and gaming skills of course. However, this pass time is becoming more and more productive. Let’s players (LPs)- gamers as commentators are usually called are setting up a real business thanks to the huge rewards they are gaining from their millions of followers.

    Youtubers become famous for the pranks they pull on their friends, sports challenges or scientific experiments and making videos of all kinds, but being a famous youtuber also means having a great business: you can earn from $ 0.5 to $ 2 for every 1000 views! Most of it comes from advertising revenue. The more views a video gets, the more ad money the youtuber receives. He can also promote themselves off-screen too, with tours and events.

    Youtubers are very important because the followers can pick up useful tips for their own games and they boost the sales of videogames.

    A youtuber can also be considered as a true friend by fans thanks to daily and live videos, but being a youtuber also comes with responsibilities: he must lead by example and always be fair.

    This work, however, must not be done only to be hungry and money but it must put a lot of passion, sacrifice and a good dose of laughter.

    But never forget, in a society with diminishing social contact Youtube is a hobby and also a job but for guys only hanging out with friends can be the best way to socialize.

  • Don’t let Blue Monday get you down!

    Don’t let Blue Monday get you down!

    Do you ever feel “blue”?  No, I don’t mean if you listen to blues music or if you have blue skin or if you look like a smurf.  “Feel blue” means feeling melancholic, sad or depressed

    So we all feel “blue” after Christmas holidays, the gifts, the family’s board games and the start of school.

    The Blue Monday is the third Monday in January. It falls on January 18th this year and the least upbeat day on the calendar has taken on new meaning in 2021due to Coronavirus with the stress and uncertainty that comes along with it.

    The psychologist Dr Cliff Arnall calculated the date using a formula with many factors like levels of debt, motivation and time since Christmas.

    While some people happen to feel “blue”, others think it’s ridiculous. In fact, many people argue that there are no valid reasons or authentic scientific basis for Blue Monday.

    But what can we do to give yourself a necessary dose of positivity as we kick off 2021?

    Here some easy ways you can add some lightness and positivity to your life to boost your mood on Blue Monday or any day.

    • Encourage your friends to have a virtual drink, staying connected and have a chat;
    • Listen to your favourite songs, a podcast or watch something fun on TV;
    • Read a self-care book;
    • Wear something colourful ;
    • Buy some flowers;
    • Have a hair makeover
    • Indulge in aromatherapy, right down to your fragrance.

    By the way! Don’t worry! There isn’t only ‘The saddest day of the year’ but also the happiest: the new formula of Dr Arnall says that “The Happiest day of the year” will be around June 20th, when the days are longer and there is sun and holiday are getting a little closer.

  •  REMEMBERING ALAN RICKMAN

     REMEMBERING ALAN RICKMAN

    Five years ago, one of the brightest stars in the film firmament left us: Alan Rickman. But who was this extraordinary actor ? Let’s find out it together. Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman was born in London in February 21st 1946   from a working class family. He approached the world of acting at the Latymer Upper School in London, which he managed to attend on a scholarship thanks to his talent for painting and writing. In 1965 he happily married the political activist Rima Horto, but he never had children. After graduating from RADA, he performed in the most important English theater companies. He made his debut in the world of cinema in 1988 with the role of Hans Gruber in the film “Crystal Trap”. What made him appreciated by the public for his skill in playing the role of antagonist, was his performance in 1991’s Robin Hood,.There he took on the role of the evil Sheriff George of Nottingham. In 1995, his success was such that he refused the role of Alan Trevelyan in the James Bond film without thinking twice. But another source of pride came to him the following year, when he won an Emmy Award for his extraordinary performance of Rasputin. From 2001 to 2011 he wore the long black toga of Severus Snape, the half-blood prince of the Harry Potter saga. Thanks to his impeccable acting he made this character one of the many icons of cinema, remaining the role for which he is most appreciated and known by young people. Unfortunately, in 2015, the actor discovered  a pancreatic cancer which led him  to  death.  It is my duty to say that the ones I mentioned are just some of the actor’s successful films, because a simple article would not be enough to list them all. However, he bequeathed to this world the last two masterpieces of his career and his life: “the right to kill”  and “Alice through the looking glass”. Loved by the public, admired by his peers, critically acclaimed, and crowned best British actor ever, Alan Rickman was a master in his field. In addition to his charm and his art, the most important merit was certainly making people dream. Not everyone conveys emotions from a screen, not everyone manages to make the audience love a villain… but in the end we know that not everyone is Alan Rickman. Thanks to his inexpressible talent and his elegance ,he made each of his performances unique and unforgettable, making people appreciate him more than the protagonists of the films. And even if the bright light of his talent is gone away too soon, it will always remain in our hearts.

    A boxer: a champion as a deskmate friend

    Although man has practiced the art of fighting with his bare hands since the dawn of history, the first historical evidence of boxing matches has very ancient dates. In fact, the first known description of boxing is attested around the third century B.C., in a Sumerian bas-relief, found in Iraq. Although, it became a real sporting practice in Ancient Greece, thanks to its first introduction to the traditional Olympic Games in 688 B.C. Boxing also became extremely popular in Roman times, until, in 393 A.D., in the gladiatorial era, it was banned along with all the other Olympic games, considered pagan. With the advent of Christianity, boxing as a means of entertainment fell into disuse due to its excessive brutality, only to resurrect in the 16th century, especially in Britain, until the rules of the Marquis of Queensberry were introduced in 1867. I ‘ve had the opportunity to appreciate this noble sport, thanks to my dear friend Salvatore Pollio, student of the Liceo Pitagora-B. Croce, in Torre Annunziata. He won in the Junior 50 kg category of the Italian Boxing Championships 2020. One of the questions that I often ask myself thinking of Salvatore is how he manages the boxing practiced at a competitive level with the studies of Classical High School. He has always replied that he is motivated by a strong passion for both, which leads him not to stop, committing to organize every day in the best possible way. Moreover Salvatore told me that before trying his hand at boxing, he had played football, also at a competitive level, but the passion for boxing was given him by his uncle,who encouraged him to go to the gym together .He gave him his first pair of gloves, which he still jealously preserves. Subsequently, after 5 months of relaxation, he faced his first meeting between great emotions and tensions: THE FIRST MATCH from which he learned a lot. Salvatore’s passion for boxing leads him to make many sacrifices , between extreme diets and intense relaxation that lead him to have little time for himself. But he is convinced that these sacrifices will pay off. Salvatore told me about his dream: to become a magistrate ; but he also told me he wants to carry on practicing boxing at competitive levels. He knows it will be a difficult path, but his strong determination will lead him not to stop. Finally I asked Salvatore about the Italian championship of 2021 and he replied that he will try again the Italian championships, passing the regional stages, but this time ,he‘d like to gain the first place.
    This is the story of Salvatore Pollio a 16-year-old boy, who came to obtain an overall second place in the Italian championships, thanks to his great determination. In my opinion a splendid example of what can be achieve by combining a great passion and a determined iron will.

  • The genetic covid-19 variation

    The genetic covid-19 variation

    UK scientists have found recently a new variant of the coronavirus. The Health secretary, Matt Hancock,  found out plus than 1000 cases in sixty different areas, especially in the South-East of England and in London. The scientific name of it is Sars-CoV2. We don’t know a lot about this new variant, so we don’t have to worry at the moment, we only know that it is faster than covid-19 previous virus. The mutation of that variant depends on the spike protein. The coronavirus vaccine, perhaps, could be the right solution. Prof Alan McNally, an expert at the University of Birmingham, told the BBC that people don’t have to be afraid of it but it is something to keep an eye on. Instead, Dr Jeremy Farrar, director of Wellcome, said that it is a serious problem and that the research should continue.  However, we have also good news because Jonathan Ball, professor of molecular virology at the University of Nottingham, said that the genetic information in many viruses can change very rapidly and sometimes these changes can benefit the virus. Now we can only wait for new information.

    Will the vaccine put an end to the pandemic? The expectations of many people are projected on this prevention tool but its development hasn’t been guaranteed yet. It isn’t mandatory so many people won’t be obliged to get it, this implies that the virus cannot be completely destroyed. There is also to say that this would mean to produce millions of doses for people all over  the world. I don’t think that the vaccine will completely end the virus, but I hope that it will improve the actual situation.

  • No vaccine, no fly?

    No vaccine, no fly?

    During this year one of the most disrupted sector is certainly the air travel. When in April all the world was locked down and the borders were closed all the airlines around the world founded themselves without passengers, and so, without a revenue. Most airlines decided to ground all of their fleets or use a small percentage of it to fly cargo planes or repatriation flights, like Alitalia which flew during all the first lockdown non-stop from Rome to Hong Kong, Beijing, New Delhi and so forth.

    As of December 2020 the first vaccine is going to be given to the population and is expected that in a few months we will achieve herd immunity. The states administrations all around the world want an answer by the IATA (International Air Transport Association) on how air travel will be in 2021. IATA still does not know the answer yet, but two major airlines have already independently exposed themselves; Qantas and Delta Airlines.

    “Our position on this is clear. We have a duty of care to our people and our passengers, and once a safe and effective vaccine becomes readily available, it will be a requirement for travel on our international services,” said Mr Joyce, Qantas CEO, in comments to the media on Thursday.

    In Europe, the EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) still follow the special guidelines for air travel: wash your hands, keep a seat empty, use of a safe mask for all the duration of the flight and so on…

    On the other hand in the US the FAA (Feder Aviation Administration) has authorized pilots and air traffic controllers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, subject to certain conditions.

    The authorization comes as the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared a vaccine. It is important to clarify that in the US the Covid’s guidelines are still not followed due to the position of their President: Donald Trump, a convinced negationist.

    We hope that the travel will begin again and there will be a full recovery after this pandemic. From almost a year we are waiving our youth away to reach the safeguard of elder and fragile people, we are blocked from seeing the world and explore, but, we know that these special measures are going to end and we personally hope that with this vaccine we are a step closer to win this tremendous virus.

  • WHAT TO GIVE A QUEEN? THE STRANGEST GIFTS THE QUEEN OF ENGLAND RECEIVED

    WHAT TO GIVE A QUEEN? THE STRANGEST GIFTS THE QUEEN OF ENGLAND RECEIVED

    Despite the difficult situation we are facing due to the pandemic, no one has forgotten the Christmas spirit, not even Queen Elizabeth II.

    The Queen is forced to spend Christmas away from her family without sacrificing her Christmas speech and her traditional gift exchange to which she is very fond, all strictly by video call on the Zoom platform.

    But what gifts do you give to Queen? In her 67 years as Queen, Elizabeth II were given every kind of gift to amaze her. People just send stuff to the Queen: milk bottles, cakes, biscuits. They think she looks a bit hungry, so they send her some cake or boxes of chocolate.

    Remembering her passion for horses and horse riding, in 1991 the United States government honored her with a pair of cowboy boots and, last year, a 24 carat gold-plated for horse from Slovenia’s President Borut Pahor. As a company for her horses there is an elephant of the African forest, a gift received in 1972 by the government of Cameroon (Africa).

    Who would give 500 cans of pineapple to Queen? It was a gift received in honor of his marriage by the Australian government, given to the neediest.

    As we give lucky charms, even the Queen needs it: the Fiji Islands gave her the Sperm Whale’s lucky teeth and the Virgin Islands (or Salt Islands) gave her one kilo of salt.

    Don’t worry, if you are stuck for ideas about what to give a Queen, consider that her son, Prince Harry, and his wife Meghan Markle gave her a shower cap with the sentence: “Ain’t life a Bitch?” and a singing toy hamster, both very popular.

    Sometimes I think:  what should I give her if I had the possibility? Not a precious item because I know she likes simple things and cheap presents. So I’d give her as a gift her handicraft miniature figure made by the famous Neapolitan artisans from  San Gregorio Armeno in Naples and an invitation to visit the famous market with its endless shops dedicated to the Christmas Nativity tradition famous all over the world. Of course she could enjoy a magical Christmas atmosphere together with a special guide: “ME”.
